Building an online reputation as a Personal Trainer

Its vital to be able to be seen online as a business.

You may have noticed if you have found yourself in a public place recently that everybody has their head buried in a smart phone.

Some people don’t even look up from their smart phone when there walking. The internet is a huge part of our day to day life, we are using it on the way to work, at work, on the way home, then at home.

It’s a daily ritual that looks impossible to break and it’s the first place we go for any kind of information.

If you cannot be found online, then it doesn’t look good and can start to raise trust issues. People want information fast using a quick search to find what they want and if you’re not taking advantage of this as a PT then you’re not in the game.

Yes, word of mouth is very powerful when you receive recommendations but what about people who don’t know you? What if somebody has just moved to the area and they don’t know anybody? They are going to look online straight away.

So where do you start with your online reputation?

A website – This should be your first point of call and is known as your virtual salesman. If you don’t have a website, then it doesn’t look professional and especially if you cannot be found on Google. Your website is a great place to promote your achievements especially testimonials from clients who have experienced great results with you. It’s a great place for potential customers to research you so put before and after pictures of client’s body transformations.

Google – Google Maps, Ads and SEO can be used to get your website ranking on the internet. PPC can be expensive and if you don’t know what you’re doing then we recommend you speak to a Google Partner. SEO can be long winded and can also be expensive so again speak to a Google Partner. Google Maps is free to register your business on and you will feature on the 1st page Google using this. Google Plus is also a great way to get recommendations and reviews.

Facebook – Facebook is great at targeting certain of groups of people as you can type in the details of the people you want to see your ads based on their age, location and hobbies and interests. You can post sponsored ads very easily once you have created a page for your business. Its also a great interactive way to communicate with potential clients and existing clients. Also a great place to post short videos which will catch the eye of potential customers.

Instagram – Mainly just used for visuals Instagram is a popular way to show off your body or post photos of motivation and inspiration. It’s a good way to post training advice also shows an insight of you training clients.

Youtube – Make sure you set up a Youtube channel. Youtube is a great way to post short videos of yourself and your business. 1 minute videos on workouts or nutritional advice will show your professionalism off.

Twitter – Good to have images and promote blogs with links back to your website.

The more you are seen online the more brand awareness you’re creating and trust with the public. Get your name out there and make sure to do everything outlined in this blog and you will soon start to see your business grow.
